About Thames Ditton

Thames Ditton is a village in the Elmbridge district of Surrey, on the south bank of the Thames opposite Hampton Court Park. Its centre is Giggs Hill Green, with the old High Street running down towards the river. Thames Ditton station is on the short branch line between Surbiton and Hampton Court. To the south, Weston Green sits along the A309 Hampton Court Way.

Two ways to the airport

Thames Ditton is unusual because it is well placed for both main airports. For Heathrow, the car crosses Hampton Court Bridge and heads north through Hampton. For Gatwick, it takes the A309 to the A3 and joins the M25 at junction 10. Either way, there is no need to go through Kingston town centre.

Families and school runs

Thames Ditton has a lot of young families, and we carry many children to schools in Kingston, Surbiton and Esher on our school run taxi service. For holidays, families with luggage often choose our 6 seater.

Riverside evenings

Thames Ditton's location on the river, opposite Hampton Court Park, makes it a lovely place for an evening walk or a meal. Getting home is easier when nobody has to drive, so many locals book us both ways.

The village pubs by the river are popular on summer evenings, and Hampton Court's summer events bring extra visitors. A pre-booked taxi home means nobody needs to drive. Book ahead on busy weekends.

Popular pick-up points in Thames Ditton

  • Giggs Hill Green: the village green, with pubs and shops close by.
  • Thames Ditton station: on the Hampton Court branch towards Surbiton and Waterloo.
  • High Street: the old village street leading down to the river.
  • Weston Green: homes and pubs along Hampton Court Way near Esher.

Thames Ditton's branch line has fewer trains than the main line at Surbiton, so many residents book a taxi to Surbiton station for fast trains into London, especially early in the morning. If you do this regularly, ask the office about setting up repeat bookings.

For trips into Kingston, the driver usually takes the Portsmouth Road through Long Ditton and Surbiton. When that road is slow, going round via Hampton Court Bridge and Hampton Wick can be quicker. The price is agreed when you book, so the route does not change your fare.
