Getting around Surbiton by taxi

Surbiton is a busy commuter town, built around one of the best-known stations in south-west London. Its 1930s Art Deco station sends fast trains to Waterloo, and the roads around it, Victoria Road, Claremont Road and Maple Road, are full of cafés, shops and restaurants. Much of our Surbiton work starts or ends right here.

Away from the centre, Surbiton spreads up the hill along Ewell Road towards Tolworth and north into Berrylands, with quiet residential streets where a car is often the easiest way to get anywhere with bags or children.

Surbiton station pick-ups and drop-offs

Surbiton station gets very busy at peak times, and the short stretch of Victoria Road in front of it fills quickly with buses and cars. When you book a station pick-up, we agree a spot nearby where the driver can stop safely. If your train is delayed, call the office and we will let the driver know.

When trains are disrupted, the station empties onto the street and everyone looks for a car at once. If you know there is a strike or engineering work coming, book ahead.

Airport runs from Surbiton

Surbiton sits on the southern side of Kingston, which means it is well placed for Gatwick. The driver can head out along the A3 or down through Hook to the A243 and join the M25 without going through Kingston town centre. For Heathrow, the car goes back through Kingston and out over the bridge or along the A308.

School runs and local trips

Surbiton has several primary and secondary schools within a mile or two of the station, and many families use our school run taxi for regular term-time journeys. We also take Surbiton residents to appointments at Kingston Hospital, shopping in Kingston, and evenings out along the river.

Popular pick-up points in Surbiton

  • Surbiton station: the busiest pick-up in the area, especially after the evening fast trains from Waterloo arrive.
  • Victoria Road and Claremont Road: restaurants, bars and cafés, with plenty of late-evening bookings at weekends.
  • Queen's Promenade: the riverside walk between Surbiton and Kingston, popular on summer evenings.
  • Berrylands: quiet residential roads near Berrylands station, where many families book airport runs.

Surbiton's one-way streets and bus lanes around the station can make it confusing for drivers who do not know the area. Ours work around Kingston every day, so they know where they can stop safely and which side streets to use when Victoria Road is blocked. If you live in a block of flats, add the building name and any entry code to your booking so the driver can find the right door.

For trips home after a night out on Victoria Road, book your return before you go out. Friday and Saturday nights are our busiest times, and cars booked in advance are planned first.

Nearby areas

We also cover Tolworth, just up Ewell Road, Thames Ditton across the river, and Chessington to the south. See all the places we serve on our areas we cover page.

Surbiton taxi questions

Can you pick me up from Surbiton station?

Yes. Give us your train time if you are arriving, and we agree a meeting point outside the station on Victoria Road or Claremont Road. The driver calls you when they arrive.

How long does it take to get from Surbiton to Kingston town centre?

Usually 8 to 12 minutes by car, depending on traffic on the Portsmouth Road and around the Kingston one-way system.

Do you cover Berrylands and the riverside?

Yes. We cover all of Surbiton, including Berrylands, the Queen's Promenade riverside, the streets around Ewell Road and Surbiton Hill.

Is a taxi useful if I can take the fast train from Surbiton?

For daytime trips into Waterloo, the train is often quickest. A taxi helps when trains are not running, when you have luggage, or when you are going somewhere the train does not reach directly, such as an airport.
