When a 6 seater makes sense
The question we hear most is, "Will we fit in a normal car?" A saloon takes four passengers comfortably, but the boot fills fast once you add holiday suitcases. As a rule of thumb, book a 6 seater if any of these apply:
- there are five or six of you travelling together
- four adults have a large suitcase each, plus hand luggage
- you are travelling with a pushchair, a folding wheelchair or sports kit
- two families want to share one car to the same place
Family airport runs
Summer holidays and half-terms are when our MPVs are busiest. A family of five flying from Gatwick with two weeks of luggage simply will not fit in a saloon. In a 6 seater, everyone sits together, the bags go in the back, and the driver takes the A3 or the A243 down to the M25 without anyone holding a case on their knees. The same goes for longer runs to Stansted and Luton, where comfort matters over a drive of more than an hour.
Days out and events around Kingston
Six seats are also handy for local outings. Friends heading to a match at Twickenham Stadium, a family going to Chessington World of Adventures, or a group booked into a restaurant on the Kingston riverside can all travel in one car and arrive together. For a booking like this, set a return pick-up time too, so the car is waiting when you come out.
Shared school runs
Some families on the same street share a school run taxi to cut costs. With a 6 seater, up to six children can travel together, with school bags and PE kit in the back. Families in New Malden and Thames Ditton often use this for secondary schools a few miles away.
6 seater or 7 seater?
If there are seven or eight of you, the 6 seater is not big enough, and you should book our 7 seater taxi instead. If there are six of you with a lot of luggage, the larger vehicle can also be a better fit, because its longer body leaves more room behind the rear seats. When in doubt, call the office and tell us the number of people and bags.
6 seater taxi questions
How much luggage fits in a 6 seater with six people on board?
With all six seats in use, you can typically carry three large suitcases and three small bags. If you have more luggage than that, tell us when you book. With fewer passengers, there is room for much more.
Is a 6 seater more expensive than a saloon?
The MPV fare is higher than a saloon fare for the same journey, but it is usually cheaper than booking two saloons. The booking form shows both prices so you can compare.
Can I book a 6 seater for just four people?
Yes. Four adults with large suitcases often book an MPV because a saloon boot would be too small. You pay the MPV fare whatever the number of passengers.
Is there room for a pushchair or a wheelchair?
A folded pushchair or a folding wheelchair fits in the back with some luggage. Tell us when you book so that we leave enough space.
