About Ham
Ham is a green, mostly residential area on the Surrey side of the Thames, between Kingston and Richmond. Ham Common is at its centre, with Ham Parade's shops nearby on Richmond Road, the A307. To the west, Ham Lands run down to the river and Ham House, the 17th-century mansion cared for by the National Trust. To the east, Ham Gate opens into Richmond Park.
Getting around without a station
Unlike most of the places we cover, Ham has no railway station. Buses link it to Kingston and Richmond, but with luggage, at night or for an early flight, a taxi is much easier. Many Ham residents book us to Kingston or Richmond stations, or straight to central London terminals such as Paddington and Waterloo.
