About New Malden

New Malden is a lively town between Kingston and Wimbledon. Its High Street is known for its Korean restaurants, bakeries and supermarkets, part of what is often described as the largest Korean community in Europe. On weekend evenings the High Street is busy with diners from all over London, and taxis home are in demand.

The A3 cuts through the town, with Malden Junction and Shannon Corner as the main crossing points. That road is the reason New Malden is so well placed for trips into London and down to the M25.

Using the A3

From New Malden, the A3 gives a direct run north-east towards Wandsworth and central London, and south-west to the M25 at junction 10. That makes New Malden one of the quickest parts of our area for Gatwick and for central London stations such as Victoria. The downside is traffic: the A3 slows badly in the morning rush and on Friday afternoons, so allow extra time.

Station and High Street pick-ups

New Malden station has trains to Waterloo, and many residents commute by rail. We often collect from the station late at night or when services are disrupted. On the High Street, parking and stopping is limited, so tell us the name of the shop or restaurant, and the driver will stop as close as possible.

Families and groups

For families with luggage heading to the airport, or groups going out for a meal together, our 6 seater taxi takes up to six people in one car. Parents in New Malden also use our school runs for secondary schools across the borough.

Popular pick-up points in New Malden

  • New Malden High Street: Korean restaurants, cafés and shops, with busy evenings from Thursday to Sunday.
  • New Malden station: commuters returning late from Waterloo, and travellers with luggage heading to the airports.
  • Coombe and Coombe Lane: larger houses on the slopes towards Kingston Hill, where gate codes are common.
  • Burlington Road and Motspur Park: the business parks and homes on the eastern side of the A3.

Weekend evenings on the High Street are when we see the most demand in New Malden. Groups of friends often book a car home after dinner, and a 6 seater saves splitting up. Give us the restaurant name and a rough finish time when you book, and call the office if you are running late.

New Malden is also a common starting point for longer journeys. The A3 makes trips to central London and the M25 quicker than from most places in the borough, so it is worth booking a taxi for early flights rather than relying on the first trains.
